Mathematics (IGPM) • Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Dahmen
The chair belongs to the Department of Mathematics. It is held by Professor Dahmen since 1992.
The research areas are:

- adaptive multiscale and preconditioning concepts for partial differential and integral equations, inverse problems and optimal control
- applications in fluid dynamics, fluid-structure interaction and process system engineering
- mesh generation for complex geometriesand geometric data processing (CAGD)
- robust and stable discretizations for multiphase fluid flow
- nonlinear approximation, image compression and machine learning
The chair is involved in the following funded projects:
- DFG SFB 401 Modulation of Flow and Fluid-Structure Interaction at Airplane Wings TP A4, B2, B3
- DFG GRK 775 Hierarchy and Symmetry in Mathematical Models
- EU-IHP-Network: Nonlinear Approximation and Adaptivity: Breaking Complexity in Numerical Modeling and Data Representation
