Computational Analysis of Technical Systems • Prof. Marek Behr, Ph.D.

The chair belongs to the Department of Mechanical Engineering. It was founded in 2004, and directed since then by Professor Behr.

The areas of expertise are:

Numerical methods:
  • complex flows of fluids
  • stabilized finite element techniques
  • robust interface tracking
  • accurate interface capturing
  • rotating and translating geometries
  • microstructured fluids
  • shape optimization and inverse problems
Applications:
  • GYRO LVAD (centrifugal blood pump)
  • DeBakey LVAD (axial blood pump)
  • tissue engineering (bone growth)
  • hydrodynamics (ships, submarines)
  • hydraulic structures (spillways)
  • aerodynamics (fixed-wing, rotorcraft)
  • compression moulding
  • fundamental fluid mechanics
Models of physical phenomena:
  • blood damage and clotting
  • bone deposition
  • turbulence
High-performance computing:
  • distributed-memory parallelization
  • virtual reality
